THE CHANNEL

1. Iowa Hill to Yankee Jims
I was out of the kayak, over a waterfall, and plunged so deep I could barely see daylight above. I made it to the surface in time, though I thought I might not. By then, I had an other, too.
2. Kerman
R2 here. The fool is north, with a chore to do, close the door on a life, his mother’s. I’m here south because there’s got to be more to it, that is, money, somewhere around the old farmhouse. And he needs it, though he won’t say it.
3. UCSF Parnassus Heights
The doctor said what it was was I needed a new heart.
Over-use? I asked.
No, under-use, he replied. You had a beautiful one to start with, he said. Should have gone to somebody better, he muttered. I heard him.
A new heart, that’s expensive, I said.
Sure is.
He opened the back door for me to exit, then he opened the front door, called out Next!
4. San Carlos
If you’re going to have an other, shouldn’t it be an ally?
S2 here. No. Not this one . . .
